Activities such as Shaolin Kung Fu is a fun way for both boys and girls to achieve physical fitness, healthy lifestyle, focus and confidence. Some parents may think they also promote violence, but that’s a myth, according to experts. Martials Arts actually help teach self-discipline and socialization skills.

A typical hour-long class begins and ends with a bow to the Master. After a warm-up, students practice the art’s particular skills or set of Shaolin routine, which may include kicks, punches and blocks, for the more advance students they may be taught a basic Shaolin Weapon such as the Shaolin Staff. Each requires concentration and strict attention.

Progress of Shaolin Kungfu is carried out in accordance to the master-apprentice system. Contemporary monks in Shaolin Temple still follows the inheritance lineage established throughout its long and illustrious history. Outside of Shaolin Temple children’s progress is marked by a certificate system. Testing for each new level generally every four months. In order to achieve each new level, the children are not only be given a test routine to be performed in front of the Master but their overall behaviour, discipline, attitude, diligence and tenacity is also taken into consideration.

Experts have said that, it’s the respect, discipline the kids learn, whether from bowing or standing still and waiting for the next command be the most important benefit: It often carries over into school, helping to improve behavior and even grades, according to recent research.
